Public Education and Citizenship Committee2007-2008 REPORT To The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Florida:
We the members of the Public Education and Citizenship Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank Most Worshipful Robert P. Harry Jr., Grand Master and the entire Grand Lodge Family for having given us the opportunity and privilege to serve this Grand Jurisdiction through this committee for the past Masonic year. We would also like to thank each of the respective District Chairman, Worshipful Masters and the Lodges throughout this Grand Jurisdiction for the hard work, support and commitment that each have given to this Committee program. Without this support we could not have achieved the success that this program experienced this Masonic year. Scholarship Essay Contest This year there were three hundred and twenty one entries submitted for consideration. Unfortunately only ten (10) could be selected to receive the one thousand dollar ($1000.00) scholarship. This made the selection process very difficult for the Eight (8) English Teachers from Polk, Hardee and Highlands Counties who were selected and volunteered to serve as the judges for the Selection Committee. A special thanks to each of the members who served on the Selection Committee for not only their expertise and time, but also to their continued devotion to our educational process and all that it brings to this great country of ours. Each Essay was sorted according to the respective Zone for which the High School was located. Each essay was read twice by two (2) different members of the Selection Committee with a letter grade of A to C being assessed to each Essay. After this first screening process was completed, the Essays receiving a Grade of either A or B were sent for a second round of readings. This time each was read by three (3) different members of the Selection Committee and a numerical grade of 90‑100 was given. The highest grade from each Zone was then selected as the winning entries. This committee has taken the liberty to extend a letter of thank you and gratitude to each participant for their time, work and devotion spent in formulating and composing their respective essays. Congratulations to the winning students and we wish each of you success in achieving your goals of a higher education.
